What is Genealogy and Ancestry?

  Both Genealogy and Ancestry require the collection of names and how they are related to a person, however, there is a difference between the two. Genealogy is basically beginning with a single ancestor and traces forward in time to include ALL descendants to the present. Ancestry begins with a single individual and traces back in time to include male and female lines of that person's family.

  Any person that has researched Genealogy or Ancestry will tell you that the rewards are worth the effort, but finding those rewards can be maddening. The phrase "Shake your family tree and watch the nuts fall out" is very true, but there are many times that you will discover that there is nothing there, nothing fits right, or the fruit just refuses to fall.

Making sense of it all

  You may be asking yourself what all of these terms in genealogy mean. "Just what is an ahnentafel chart? I thought a pedigree chart was for animals." ;) Well, here is a Glossary of Genealogy Terms that might be of some help.
